Everyone is trying to get to themselves,

trying to get to the bare bones of who they are,

what they stand for,

where they draw the line.

The thing is - you only get there by living

-- by screaming, laughing, crying, shaking, by letting go, one finger at a time.

You get there by loving someone so much it makes you inexplicably cruel,

by hurting a friend, a family, or a lover

and only knowing the pain you caused them when the same is done to you.

You come home to yourself when you have a thing or two to tell your past,

when you see with crystal quality the parts of yourself you need to keep or discard.

🦈

You see the multitude of paths you could have taken,

the things you could have seen.

And you close your eyes, relieved and grateful that you ended up as YOU - out of all the people you could have been.
